If there's one thing that's always been part of my life, it's creativity.
From a young age, I was always making something. I loved fashion, colour, design and, most of all, jewellery. Long I set up my own jewellery business, I'd spend hours creating pieces by hand, experimenting with different materials and making jewellery for myself, friends and family. It always felt like more than a hobby, it was something that genuinely made me happy.
That passion eventually led me to study Fashion Design in Glasgow, where my creativity really came to life. I loved learning about design, craftsmanship and how something beautifully made could make someone feel more confident, expressive and completely themselves.
Alongside my love of creativity, I was incredibly lucky to grow up in rural Scotland, where my parents owned and ran a beautiful hotel. Hospitality wasn't just our family business, it was our way of life.
Then came 2020.
Like so many people, lockdown completely changed the pace of life. While the world seemed to stand still, I found myself with something I hadn't had in years, time to think, time to create and time to dream.
I knew I wanted to build something that was completely my own.
Something creative.
Something that combined my love of jewellery, fashion and making people smile.
So I sat down at my kitchen table and started making resin earrings by hand.
There were plenty of late nights, lots of trial and error and more "smash tests" than I can remember. Every design taught me something new, and with each one my confidence grew.
It didn't take long for me to realise that although I loved making every pair by hand, it simply wasn't going to be possible if I wanted to grow the business. So I made the decision to work with trusted manufacturers who could bring my original designs to life while allowing me to focus on what I loved most, creating beautiful collections.
During lockdown, people were searching for little moments of happiness. Many were juggling homeschooling, working from home or simply trying to navigate an uncertain world. I loved the thought that opening one of our little jewellery boxes could brighten someone's day.
After all, what better way to lift your mood than putting on a pair of earrings that makes you feel amazing?
That simple idea became the foundation of everything EAR SASS stood for.
What started as a creative outlet quickly grew into something far bigger than I ever imagined.
Orders began arriving from across the UK, and with every parcel I packed, I felt incredibly grateful that something I'd created at my kitchen table was finding its way into people's lives.
I wanted every collection to tell a story.
That's why every piece of jewellery was named after a woman who had influenced my life in some way. Some were family, some were friends and others were women who had inspired me throughout my journey. Every name carried meaning, and every collection became a celebration of the remarkable women who had helped shape the person I am today.
The most rewarding part wasn't watching the business grow, it was getting to know the incredible community that grew alongside it.
Customers would send photographs wearing their jewellery, tell us about birthdays, weddings, celebrations and special milestones, and share the stories behind why they'd chosen a particular piece. Before long, EAR SASS became so much more than jewellery. It became a community built on kindness, connection and confidence.
Running EAR SASS has been one of the greatest chapters of my life. It has introduced me to the most incredible people, created lifelong friendships, and given me memories that I'll treasure forever. Whether we've met at a pop-up event, an exhibition, through social media, or you've been one of our wonderful customers supporting us from home, every single person has helped shape this journey.
Like any business, it has come with its challenges, but it has also brought me so much joy, and I'll always be incredibly proud of everything we built together.
As the years went on, though, I realised that the part of the business that truly lit me up was always The Issy Star. It was never just another piece of jewellery, it represented something so much bigger. It became a symbol of hope, love, remembrance and meaningful conversations around mental health.
I found myself wanting to dedicate more and more of my time, energy and creativity to that mission. Supporting charities, raising awareness, sharing stories and creating jewellery with genuine purpose felt completely aligned with who I am, both personally and professionally. It also aligned with my own journey and the importance of protecting my mental wellbeing.
So, after a lot of thought, I made the decision to close one chapter and begin another. Rather than creating jewellery for the sake of creating jewellery, every piece we now design has a purpose and a story behind it.
This isn't the end of a journey, it's the beginning of an even more meaningful one.
We are so excited for everything that's to come and have some very special news to share this September. Thank you for being part of this journey, believing in our mission, and helping us spread hope...
One star at a time. ✨
