What is a fresh water pearl?
These are pearls that form inside freshwater mussels, typically in rivers, lakes, and ponds rather than in saltwater environments. It is a gem-like object that forms inside a freshwater mussel when nacre (a mixture of calcium carbonate and proteins) is secreted, unlike other of pearl which is a flat layer that originates from the lining of the mollusks.
